They’ll announce inclusivity with a PowerPoint and a stock photo of someone laughing at a salad, then quietly label you a “risk” because you had the audacity to be honest, sick, sad, or biologically real. Suddenly every move needs documentation. Every tone needs decoding. Every boundary is “concerning.”

It’s not discrimination, of course. It’s support. Support that looks suspiciously like surveillance. “Just checking in” becomes “we’ve noticed.” “Making sure you’re okay” becomes “looping HR for visibility.” You’re not being managed more, you’re being observed.

Because the real issue was never your depression, cancer, or humanity. It’s that you don’t run on their preferred operating system: silent, endlessly resilient, and never inconvenient.

They don’t want people. They want avatars. And nothing scares corporate more than someone who reminds them that humans don’t come with a mute button.

Honestly? A rejection letter on New Year’s Day is a level of commitment to pettiness that deserves a tiny golf clap. Nothing says “Royal Service” like scheduling rejection emails between champagne hangovers and leftover charcuterie. Also, the booth interaction is classic. The corporate equivalent of, “Wow, great to meet you, please never stand this close to me again.” Smiling, nodding, encouraging you to apply… while physically trying to escape like you’d asked a follow-up question. Truly elite multitasking. And you’re right, you’re not red-flagged in the system, just in the vibes. Digitally acceptable. Spiritually threatening. Because experience comes with opinions, and opinions come with questions, and questions ruin the peaceful echo chamber of corporate Kool-Aid sipping. Honestly, the fact that they rejected you immediately just saved you weeks of fake enthusiasm, forced gratitude, and meetings where “culture fit” means “don’t notice things.” That alone is a win. Also love that the highlight was, “At least one of your people can write.” A devastatingly polite parting gift.

A Rejection letter on New Year's Day!

Guess I shouldn't have expected anything less from the management company that supposedly provides "Royal Service".

I applied as a lark on Dec 30th, knowing full well they wouldn't give me the time of day. Especially after the way they reacted to my presence at the last networking event. Nervous, jerky, yet assuring me to keep applying, while trying to get out of the conversation as quickly as possible, even though no one was waiting at their booth.

They proved me right! They "say" I'm not red-flagged, but I know that maybe digitally I'm not cause they have no legal reasons, but in their minds... Yeah. And that's OK,because they are red-flagged in my mind too.

I just wanted to prove to myself what I already was pretty certain of. They aren't worth my time, nor worthy of my experience, but that experience is something they don't want. Too much knowledge, I might ask questions. I might have opinions contrary to theirs. They know their flavor of corporate kool-aid isn't one I would swallow quietly.

The only good thing is that I found an article posted by one of the RDs that is actually decently written.

The world runs on Early Bird Standard Time

Everyone else is thriving at 7am.
I'm still negotiating consciousness.

2. Society thinks staying up late = lazy

Apparently productivity only counts if it happens before noon.

3. Morning appointments are a hate crime

Dentist at 8am? Jail.

4. Coffee becomes a personality trait

And in my case… decaf. A personal tragedy.

5. My body clock is a chaotic gremlin

2am is for intrusive thoughts, not sleep.

6. The guilt

I didn’t do anything wrong, but waking up at noon feels like a felony.

7. Nighttime peace vs. daytime responsibility

I peak when the world powers down. Fantastic timing.

8. Everyone assumes i can just “fix it”

“Go to bed earlier!”
Wow, thanks Mom, I’ve never considered that revolutionary strategy...
especially from the same woman who once tried everything short of bringing in the entire Iroquois Confederacy to “flip” my sleep schedule, and consulted a parade of baffled shrinks who basically shrugged and said, “Buh? She’s half-back-asswards.”

9. No one to talk to because they’re all asleep

I finally want human interaction, and the universe says:
“Too bad, sweetheart, the world clocked out.”
And the ones who didn’t?
They have better things to do than talk to a bored 55-year-old woman trying not to lose her mind at 1:47am.
Night owls respect each other’s silence like it’s an international peace treaty.

10. LinkedIn has apparently switched to India/Nigeria Standard Time

At 2am, my only notifications are recruiters from three continents away offering jobs that pay in “exposure” and maybe a sandwich.

11. My actual network? Dead to the world

I post at night → crickets.
I post during the day → judgmental crickets.
